The u of CH4 and CCl4 is zero. Than prediction of its shape and give reason of its right shape.

  • This results in tetrahedral geometry.

  • This tetrahedral geometry is also responsible for the zero magnetic diople moment of CCl₄.

  • Magnetic diople moment due to C - Cl bond will be cancelled by those in opposite side.

  • Also symmetry causes the net dipole moment to be zero.

  • Same reason for CH₄.

  • Magnetic diople moment due to C - H bond will be cancelled by those in opposite side.
