Molecular formula of the compound is MCl2, where M is the divalent cation.

Vapour density (D) = Molecular mass (M) /2

So molar mass of the compound = 2 x 59.5 = 119

Equivalent mass (E) = molar mass (M) / (number of cation x valency)

Number of cation = 1, and valency of the cation =2

So, E = 119 / (1x2) = 59.5
