The variables x and y are connected by the equation
y=x^2+2x-8. Some values of x and the corresponding
values of y are given in the table.

TABLE=

X= -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 1, 2, 3
Y= 7, a, -5, -8, -9, b, 0, 7

(a) Find the value of a and b.

(b) On a sheet of graph paper, using a scale of
2 cm to represent 1 unit on the x-axis and 1 cm
to represent 1 unit on the y-axis, draw the graph
of y=x^2+2x-8 for -5<x<3.

(c) Use your graph in (b) to find
(1) the value of x when y=3,
(2) the minimum value of y.

(d) state the equation of the line of symmetry of the graph.
