.Some scientists have already named this period “the global touristification phase.” It is unlikely that this process will slow down in the near future. Tourism is transforming the image of the globe, but mainly it is changing people, their mentality, consciousness, needs and interests. We should not regard tourism as a purely economic phenomenon, or perceive it as a source of the national budget. In order to be able to understand and describe contemporary tourism we need to take a holistic and interdisciplinary approach. Tourism appears to manifest man’s aspirations to experience something unusual, something extraordinary; to have rich experiences and impressions, or simply to feel deep emotions. This uniqueness is depicted in the Himalayan landscapes, the charms of a tropical beach, experiencing emotions while visiting an art gallery, or by witnessing the individuality of the people encountered along the tourist path. Tourist activity can have various effects. These change people, but also they change other people encountered along the way. Tourism represents a goal, but it can also serve as an instrument of educational activity. Tourism changes the landscape. For the purpose of tourist movement special infrastructures are prepared; people build tourist housing developments and develop mountain slopes and water routes so they are accessible to tourists. Heavy tourist traffic leads to the devastation of the natural environment, but ironically it can also protect both the natural environment and the cultural environment. This brief and concise introduction shows that tourism can be seen as love; it too possesses several names. As a result, tourism studies contribute to a better understanding of human nature and the mechanisms of human behavior. Therefore, we should expect that the interdisciplinary approach to tourism will gain general recognition, and thereafter bring a comprehensive acceptance of the tourism sciences.
