The velocity of a body in cgs system of units is 50 cm/s. in a system of units in which unit of length is 20cm and unit of time is 10 min.

The numerical value of velocity of the body in the new system of units will be

  1. 1000
  2. 1500
  3. 2000
  4. 2500

solution : we know, NU = constant

where N is numerical value and unit value of a physical quantity.

i.e., N₁U₁ = N₂U₂

here N₁ = 50 , U₁ = cm/s

N₂ = ?, U₂ = (20cm)/(10 min)

⇒50 × cm/s = N₂ × (20cm)/(10 min)

⇒25 cm/s = N₂ × 1cm/(60 s)

⇒N₂ = 25 × 60 = 1500

Therefore the new system of units will be 1500 i.e., option (2) is correct
