Given :

Acceleration = 2m/s²

Final velocity = 20m/s²

Time interval = 5s

To Find :

Initial velocity of motorcycle.

Solution :

⧪ Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity.

  • It is a vector quantity having both magnitude as well as direction.
  • It can be positive, negative or zero.
  • SI unit : m/s²
  • CGS unit : cm/s²

Motorcycle has constant acceleration throughout the motion, so we can apply equation of kinematics in order to find initial velocity of bike.

Let's apply first equation of kinematics;

➠ v = u + at

  • v denotes final velocity
  • u denotes initial velocity
  • a denotes acceleration
  • t denotes time

By substituting the values;

➠ 20 = u + (2)(5)

➠ 20 = u + 10

➠ u = 20 - 10

u = 10 m/s
