The velocity of a wave along a plucked string is given by v=square root (TL/M). Where T is the tension in the string, L is the length and M is the mass. Show that the formula is dimensionally valid.

Answer:

we know that unit of velocity=meter/sec.

Given √TL/M

where ,T= force= mass*gravity=kg*m/sec2

L= meter

M= kg

>√kg*m/sec2*m/kg

> √m2/sec2

>. square root gets cancelled

> meter/sec

so L.H.S= R.H.S
