The one with x-axis is usually Fcos(θ) and the one with y-axis is usually Fsin(θ) where θ is the angle between the plane and the force and F is the diagonal force. So for the vertical and horizontal component to be equal the angle should be 45 degrees with the x-axis as only the sin and cos theeta would be equal.
