Answer:

GRANDFATHER bought Toto from a tonga-driver for the sum of five rupees. The tonga-driver used to keep the little red monkey tied to a feeding-trough, and the monkey looked so out of place there that Grandfather decided he would add the little fellow to his private zoo.

Feeding-trough: a large container for feeding animals

Tonga: horse cart

The writer’s grandfather purchased a monkey named Toto from a tonga driver by paying five rupees to him. The tonga driver had tied the little red - coloured monkey to a feeding trough, so that he could not run away. When the writer’s grandfather saw the monkey, he had a desire to add him to the collection of animals which he had in his zoo at home

Dear diary,

I wonder how I am so intelligent that I can write my diary entry including date and time. A few days ago I was bought by a private zoo owner from my lovely old owner a tonga-driver, it was a very sad moment for me but it didn’t make much of a difference in my life because wherever I am, I am going to be the same mischievous and pretty monkey. After I was taken to the private zoo’s owner’s house I was hidden in a closet, tied to a peg and I was covered with a bunch of ornamental wallpapers but I am very proud to say that I tore all the wallpapers apart and also a blazer of my new owner’s grandson. It was all going well, my owner was very proud of me and thought I was smart and clever because of my mischiefs.

As you know I am very mischievous, I was transferred to a big cage in the servant’s quarters where many other animals were living. My owner took me to Saharanpur and the reason was that I was not allowing other animals in the cage to sleep at night. I was so proud of whatever I did but I faced the biggest embarrassment of my life when a ticket collector in the railway station called me a dog and charged my owner with a sum of 3 rupees.

I was given royal treatment in the house. Hot water would be arranged for me every day in cold winter for bathing and as I am born smart I

knew how to check the temperature of the water and that if it’s suitable for me for taking a nice bath. But one day I don’t know what happened to my skills that I wasn’t able to realise that the water I was taking bath in was boiling on the stove in a kettle but thank god I was saved by my owner's wife.

Today I achieved something big, during the lunchtime pulao was the dish which was to be served and nobody was yet to see around the dining table so I started having my meal like a normal monkey does when he sees a delicacy. After people came near the table owner’s wife screamed at me for just eating, even my owner seemed unhappy with me, I got scared and I escaped out of the window and climbed up the jackfruit tree but what happened after this was even crazier so to annoy the owner's wife who screamed at me I dropped the plate after completing the meal from the top branch and I grinned as the plate broke into pieces.

They finally realized that they can't keep me anymore with them so they sold me back to my old owner the tonga-driver! I was so happy that I came back to him.
