  • The volume of O₂ (g) released by 1 coloumb electricity at Normal temperature and pressure (NTP) would be 0.058 mL.

Given-

  • Charge = 1 C
  • Volume of 32 grams of O₂ at NTP = 22400 mL

From the Faraday's law of electrolysis we know that-

Mass of oxygen liberated (w) = EQ/ 96500, where E is the equivalent weight of the oxygen and Q is the charge.

We know that equivalent weight of oxygen is 8. By putting the values we get-

w = EQ/96500

w = 8 × 1 / 96500

32 g of oxygen liberated 22400 mL

1 g of oxygen liberated 22400/32 mL

8/96500 g of oxygen liberated 22400/32 ×8/96500 = 179200/ 3088000 = 0.058 mL
