The volume ratio of the three bottles is 5: 3: 2 and the bottle is full of a mixture of three phenols and water. The ratio of phenyl and water in the three bottles is 2: 3, 1: 2 and 1: 3, respectively; The mixture is mixed together with 1/3 part of the first bottle, 1/2 part of the second bottle and 2/3 part of the third bottle. What is the ratio of phenyl and water in the new mixture?

Answer:

1 : 2

Step-by-step explanation:

if x is gcd of quantities of 3 bottles then the capacity of each is 5x, 3x, 2x respectively

now first bottle (2:3)

phenol = 2/5(5x) = 2x

water = 3/5(5x) = 3x

second bottle (1:2)

phenol = 1/3(3x) = x

water = 2/3(3x) = 2x

third bottle (1:3)

phenol = 1/4(2x) = x/2

water = 3/4(2x) = 3/2x

phenol (in 1/3 of first 1/2 of second 2/3 of third ) =

(1/3×2x)+(1/2×x)+2/3×(x/2) = 3/2x

water (in 1/3 of first 1/2 of second 2/3 of third ) =

(1/3×3x)+(1/2×2x)+2/3×(3x/2) =3x

therefore phenol : water in the new solution is 3x/2 : 3x = 1:2

Hope this helps!
