The wall of a refrigerated container mounted on a truck consists of 1.5 mm of sheet steel outside and 3 mm plywood inside with a layer of glass-wool insulation in between. The container is being designed to maintain an inside temperature of -10°C while the outside is 25°C. What should be the thickness of glass-wool layer to limit the heat loss to 6 kcal/hr m2 . The thermal conductivities of steel, ply wood and glass-wool are 38.0, 0.09 and 0.025 kcal/hr m°C respectively.
