The total distance between the two tanks is equal to 510m.

The two shots from the tanks are heard after 2 seconds and 3.5 seconds respectively .

The time difference between the two shots = 3.5 - 2 = 1.5 seconds

The velocity of sound in air = 340 m/s

The distance between the tanks = time difference between the shots × velocity of sound in air

= 1.5 × 340

= 510 m
