The wire inside an electric bulb is known as a Filament. The thin metallic thread is made out of a soft ductile metal known a Tungsten (W). Tungsten is used for this as it has a very low heating/melting point. When electricity is passed through the Tungsten wire, it gets heated up and glows bright yellow, thus producing the light we see when we switch on the bulb.
