The term ecology was coined by a German biologist, Ernst Haeckel, in the year 1866. It emanated from two Greek words oikos meaning “Dwelling” or “house” and logos meaning “study” or “science”. Thus, ecology is referred to as the study of household nature. Ernst Haeckel intentions was to encompass the study of animals with their physical environment which also contains other plants and animals.
