Jina means conqueror and Mahavira, the founder of Jainism, was called as Jina.


Jina is a soul who has conquered inner passions such as attachment, anger, pride and greed.


Not only Lord Mahavira was a Jina, all the Arihants were Jinas. An arihant is also called a Jina("victor").
