answer : option (c) 3 .

Given, work function for a metal surface, Φ = 2 eV

energy of a photon incident on the metal, E = 8 eV

from photoelectric effect,

K.E = E - Φ

= 8 eV - 2 eV

= 6 eV

we know, work function of a metal is the minimum amount of energy required to remove an electron from the metal.

so, number of electrons emitted by the surface = K.E/Φ

= 6eV/2eV

= 3

hence option (c) is correct choice.
