Answer:

The no of images obtained when 2 plane mirrors are at an angle of x degrees to one another is given by (360/x) - 1.

When x = theta degrees, no of images obtained = (360/theta) - 1 = a

When x = (theta - 30) degrees, no of images obtained = (360/(theta - 30)) - 1 = a + 2

(360/(theta - 30)) - 1 = (360/theta) - 1 + 2

(360/(theta - 30)) = (360/theta) + 2

360(theta) = 360(theta - 30) + 2(theta)(theta - 30)

360theta = 360theta -360(30) + 2(theta)^2 - 60theta

2(theta)^2 - 60(theta) - (30 x 360)

theta^2 - 30theta - 5 400 = 0

(theta - 90)(theta + 60) = 0

theta = 90 degrees or -60 degrees(N.A.)

When x = theta degrees, no of images obtained = (360/theta) - 1 = a

When theta = 90 degrees, no of images obtained = (360/90) - 1 = 3

When theta = (90 - 30) degrees = 60 degrees, no of images obtained = (360/60) - 1 = 6 - 1 = 5

Plane mirrors form images with the following characteristics:

Same size as the object ie magnification = 1

Left-right reversal ie lateral inversion

The same distance from/behind the mirror as the object’s distance in front of/from the mirror

Upright
