The theme of the poem:

  • This poem tells the feelings of the poet. Clearly it tells about what the poet is imagining about when the poet hears the sound of the rain that is falling on the roof.
  • It appreciates the healing power of nature, particularly when it is heard from a cosy bed in a small cottage.  
  • The poet tells that it would be a pleasant life, living and sleeping on a cottage on a rainy night, when the tinkle of rain brings some beautiful dreams. It also recollects the old memories of the past.
  • So, rain is described as a beautiful and wonderful instrument of old memories of past years.
  • The sound of rain falling on the roof make feels the poet calm, and he recollects his childhood memories. The night in which his mother is stirred before him.
