“The Little Match Girl” is a "sad story" about a miserable young girl. There was a small and poor girl who was forced to sell matched by her father. She would be permitted to enter home at night only if she sells all the matches. It was very cold and she was not able to withstand the chillness. One day when she was selling matches, she collapsed down due to the cold weather. She had few matches with her with which she tried to warm her body. She tried to light one of the matches and that was always mentioned as one of her dream. When she lit the last match, she was able to see her dead grandmother. However, unfortunately, her grandmother took the small girl also to heaven. The theme of this story is portrayed as “Unfortunate fate of a young child" who is going through difficult times.

The theme of this story is that we should never underestimate the power of one’s mind and their imagination. The girl was freezing but still she was able to walk herself to the warm places with the vision in her head. This story tells that mind is a power tool that helped the girl from the difficult situation in her life. Another idea is that this story tells that people who have difficult life will be rewarded in next life.
