thus they r the factors

so f(x)= k (x-1)(x-2) ....where k is a constant

now when f(x) is divided by (x+1) it leaves remainder 6

thus by remainder theorem

f(-1)= 6

plug it in the eq above

k (-2)(-3)= 6

6k= 6

k=1

thus f(x) = (x-1)(x-2)

f(x) = x^2-3x+2

thus a=1 and b=-3
