Given : there are 16 sweets in a bowl.

4 are blackcurrant.

5 are lemon

7 are orange .

Anna, Ravi and Sam each take one sweet at random

To Find :  the probability that the 5 lemon sweets still in the bowl

Solution:

Total items = 16

Lemons = 5

non lemons  =  11    ( 4 black currents + 7 oranges)

3 times out of 16 can be selected in ¹⁶C₃  ways

and 3 times out of 11  (non lemons ) can be selected in ¹¹C₃  ways

Probability =    ¹¹C₃  /  ¹⁶C₃

= 11 * 6/ (16 * 1 * 14)

= 11 * 3 / ( 8 * 14)

= 33/112

probability that the 5 lemon sweets still in the bowl = 33/112
