Answer:

1/15

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 2 bottles containing a mixture of wine, water and alcohol. the first bottle contains wine, water and alcohol in the ratio 3:5:2. the second bottle contains water and wine in the ratio 5:4. 1 litre of the first and 2 litres of the second are mixed together. what fraction of the mixture is alcohol?

Bottle 1

Wine : water : Alcohol ::: 3 : 5 : 2

3 + 5 + 2 = 10    , 1 Litre of first bottle is taken

Wine = 3/10  * 1 Litre =  0.3 Litre

Water = 0.5 Litre

Alcohol = 0.2 Litre

Bottle 2

Water : Wine :: 5 : 4

5 + 4 = 9  ,  2 Litre of Bottle is taken

Water =  (5/9) * 2   = 10/9 Litre

Wine = (4/9) * 2 =  8/9 Litre

Total alochol = 0.2 Litre

Total Mixture = 1 + 2 = 3 Litre

Alochol / Mixture =  0.2/3  =  2/30  = 1/15

1/15 fraction of mixture is alcohol
