Given:

R1 = 20 ohm, R2 = 50 ohm and R3 = 100 ohm

When resistors are connected in series, they literally add up to give the total resistance.

Resistance on series = 20+ 50+ 100

= 170 ohms which is the maximum resistance that can be obtained from this group of resistors.

Similarly, when the resistors are connected in parallel, the resultant is the sum of the inverse of the individual resistors.

Resultant resistance in parallel = 1/20 + 1/50 + 1/100 = 0.05 + 0.02 + 0.01

= 0.08 ohms

The minimum resistance that can be obtained from this parallel combination is 0.08 ohms.
