Given,

Total number of students in the class = 42

Number of boys in the class = 5 / 7 of total strength


If we do it practically, we will find that the total number of students is the sum of number of boys and girls in the class.

Therefore,


⇒ Total number of students = number of boys + number of girls

⇒ 42 = ( 5 / 7 of 42 ) + number of girls

⇒ 42 = ( 5 / 7 x 42 ) + number of girls

⇒ 42 = ( 5 x 6 ) + number of girls

⇒ 42 = 30 + number of girls

⇒ 42 - 30 = number of girls

⇒ 12 = number of girls



Therefore, there are 12 girls in the class.
