Given :- There are 5 times as many pens in box A than box B. Tom moves 76 pens from box A to box B. Both boxes now have the same number of pens. How many pens are in box A now ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, Box B has total x pens.

So,

Box A has total pens = 5 times as many pens in box B = 5 * x = 5x pens.

Now, given that, Tom moves 76 pens from box A to box B and after that Both boxes now have the same number of pens.

So,

→ Box A - 76 = Box B + 76

→ 5x - 76 = x + 76

→ 5x - x = 76 + 76

→ 4x = 152

dividing both sides by 4,

→ x = 38.

Therefore,

Box A has total pens = 5x = 5 * 38 = 190 pens. (Ans.)

Hence, there are 190 pens in box A.
