Mining could be a profitable economic activity in Western Brazil.

However this is not the case because of the following reasons :

1.) Mining activities pollute the surrounding rivers which affect the native community living around.

2.) Since sometimes the miners are people from other countries, the native communities complain of their cultures being eroded.

3.) Mining also leave the land ugly.

4.) Some of these minerals are found in rainforest and for mining to take place the forests need to be destroyed.

5.) Some minerals such as mercury are harmful to both human beings and animals.

For these reasons mining is not well developed in western Brazil since it has many adverse effects.

Brazil had a huge industrial growth in the last decade. So it has become one of the leading destinations for foreign investors in industry, along with Russia, China and India.

But even though it occupies a strong position globally, there are big issues, especially in the eastern part. One of the biggest problems represents the workforce in the area. This part of the country is still one of the poorest. Even if it is highly industrialized on mining, it only generates 14% of the country’s GDP. With more than 28% of the entire country population living here, because of the local low standards of life, a lot of people are living the area for richer cities in the south.

Also, the country has passed a very big crisis, due to 2009 global economic crisis. The mineral production dropped and caused a reduction in exports, losing many foreign investors.

Brazil’s mineral production in the east will depend of the discovery of new technology, find new foreign investors, while also increase the state’s control over natural resources.
