The sun is a star, and it has its own fuel to burn, its own lifetime. Once that fuel runs out, the sun will expand outwards, becoming a red giant, which will possibly burn up the earth or even vaporise it. Then, once its outer layers are shed, it will shrink and become a white dwarf, leaving the solar system cold and desolate.

But that's billions of years away, and humanity will probably be extinct by then. We'll either have evolved into a superior species and live on some other planet, or would have killed ourselves on this very planet, through stuff like global warming.
