Elements of group 3 and group 13 are generally referred to as S block elements to mean that theirs outermost electrons are found in the S orbital  

hence referred to as S block elements. in the case of transition elements, theirs outermost electrons are found in the d orbital hence referred to as d block elements. This hence implies that no transition element can be found between group 2 element magnesium and group 13 element aluminium.
