This condition of elevated uric acid level in blood is called hyperuricemia.
The primary causes are gout and the secondary causes are renal failure, glycogen storage disorders ( Von gierke's disease), higher nucleic acid catabolism.
The main effect is accumulation of urate crystal in the synovial fluids of joints causing tremendous pain especially in the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint.
Accumulation of urate crystal in cooler parts of the body causes tophi.
Treatment: Preventing intake of alcohol,
administration of colchicine, xanthine oxidase enzyme inhibitor like allopurinol,etc.
