Let us name the group having 4 boys and 2 girls as G1 and the other group as G2.

Probability of selecting boy from G1 = 4/6 = 2/3

Probability of selecting girl from G1 = 2/6 = 1/3

Probability of selecting boy from G2 = 3/4

Probability of selecting girl from G2 = 1/4

Probability of selecting 1 boy and 1 girl = Probability of selecting boy from G1

Probability of selecting girl from G2 + Probability of selecting girl from G1

Probability of selecting boy from G2 = 2/3 * 1/4 + 1/3  3/4

                                                             = 2/12+3/12

                                                             =5/12
