The correct answer is 8 and 15.

Given: The sum of the first and three time the second is 53.

Difference between 4 time the first and twice the second is 2.

To Find: The numbers.

Solution:

Let the first number = x.

Let the second number = y.

According to the statement: The sum of the first and three time the second is 53.

The equation is x + 3y = 53.

x = 53 - 3y  (Equation 1)

According to the statement: Difference between 4 time the first and twice the second is 2.

The equation is 4x - 2y = 2.

Put the value of x from equation 1.

4(53-3y) - 2y = 2

212 - 12y -2y = 2

14y = 210

y = 15

Put the value of y in equation 1.

x = 53 - 3(15)

x = 53-45 = 8

Hence, the numbers are 8 and 15.
