Sub: Introduction of new CCE educational methodology.
Sir
I write to you to express my views on the introduction of new teaching and learning methodology of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in all the schools across the nation. CCE refers to a system of school based evaluation of student that covers all aspects of student development. The major emphasis of CCE is on the continuous growth of students ensuring their intellectual, emotional, physical, cultural and social development through activity-based learning, and therefore it will not be merely limited to assessment of learner’s scholastic attainments.

Formative Assessment is very potent and innovative tool of this new policy. It is a tool used by the teacher to continuously monitor student progress in a non threatening, supportive environment. It involves regular descriptive feedback, a chance for the student to reflect on the performance, take advice and improve upon it. It involves the students’ being an essential part of assessment from designing criteria to assessing self or peers. The FA activities really involves the students in the learning actively. Student is a very active learner, as he is required to do the listening, speaking, research, ICT activities himself. This makes the learning process more interesting.  If used effectively, it can improve student performance tremendously while raising the self esteem of the child and reducing the work load of the teacher.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I appeal to all the educationists to implement this new methodology in true spirit and enthusiasm.

Yours truly,

Subject Education beyond Classroom Teaching

Sir,

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities and common masses towards Education beyond Classroom Teaching. Most schools seem to believe that classroom education is the only stepping stone to success. They go so over-board with the examinations that the schedule for junior classes resembles that of the Civil Services examination. In the process, they overlook other talents and skills of students like music, painting sports and qualities of head and heart such as courage, chivalry, personality, wit and friendship. Instead of pushing and prodding the children like beasts of burden, they should aim for the overall development of children.

The school should implement ways in which learning can take place outside the classroom. This includes short visits into the school grounds and local community, as well as visits to farms, factories, offices, neighbourhood science centres and natural settings such as a forest or a national park.

Moreover, providing students with high-quality learning activities in relevant situations beyond the walls of the classroom is vital for helping students appreciate their first-hand experiences from a variety of different perspectives.

Yours faithfully
