Natural resources are those resources that exist in their natural form or simply naturally occurring materials without any external interventions beneficial to humankind and other life forms. Examples: Forests, Wind, Solar Energy etc.
- Natural resources can be renewable i.e replenished easily( eg. Wind, Solar energy) and non-renewable( eg. Fossil fuels like oil, gas, coal etc). But the responsible use of natural resources is vital so that it is available for future generations in a long term. This is termed the sustainability of Natural resources.
- The main aim of sustainable development is to provide the resources for present generations without compromising the needs of future generations.
- The Abundant Resources of an area is an index to a well-defined economy.
- If we overexploit these resources they will be easily depleted and nothing is left for both current and future generations.
- Consider the example of Biodiversity itself, a natural resource in a broader term that is exploited by humans for food, raw materials, fuels etc. and thus the ecological balance is disturbed, which in turn leads to the extinction of several species.
- A truly sustainable resource does not deteriorate the environmental quality.
