There is a square field with each side 500 meters long. it has a compound wall along its perimeter. at one of its corners, a triangular area of the field is cordoned off by erecting a straight line fence. the compound wall and the fence will form its border. if the length of the fence is 100 meters, what is the maximum area in square meters that can be cordoned off?

For max area of a rt angled triangle with a fixed hypotenuse, base and height should be equal.
say base = height = s
then
s^2+s^2= 100^2
s^2= 0.5 *(100)^2
area of triangle = 1/2 *s*s = (1/4)*(100)^2= 50^2 = 2500 sq mtrs
