Hi there✋✋,
Here's your answer:-
Just leave the inches of the pipes, you can now easily evaluate them.
Time taken by water pipe to fill tank = 3 hr
When time = 1 hr, tank filled = 1/3
Time taken by exhaust pipe to empty the tank = 4hr
So, tank emptied in 1 hr = 1/4
Total tank filled in 1 hr when both pipes are used =
1/3-1/4 = (4-3)/12 = 1/12
So, When filled portion = 1/12, time taken = 1 hr
When filled portion = 1, time taken = 12 hr.
So, if both pipes are used, it will take 12 hrs to fill the tank.
