Let the length of first piece=x cm

Length of second piece=(x+40) CM

Total length=2 m=200 cm

Acc. to. ques.

x+x+40=200

2x+40=200

2x=200-40

2x=160

x=160/2

x=80

So, length of smaller piece is 80 cm
