Hey.

Here is the answer.

The single compound is put at noon...1200hrs(0)
So, at 1300 hrs (1) no. of items = 3 =3^1
so, at 1400 hrs (2) no. of items =9 =3^2
so, at 1500 hrs (3) no. of items = 27 =3^3 ....so on...
.
.
.
hence at midnight 2400 hrs (12) , no. of items = 3^12 which makes the container full.

So, 1/3 rd of 3^12= 1/3×3^12= 3^11

Hence, the container will be 1/3rd full at 2300 hrs (11) just before midnight.

Thanks.

Answer:

1st hour 3, 2nd hour 3^2, so on total 12 hrs. So in 12 hrs 3^12. 1/3rd of this is clearly 3^11. So ans is 11 hrs
