. There is milk and water in a certain ratio in a vessel. If we took out 16 lt water, then the ratio become 3 : 4. Then 35 lt milk is taken out, then the ratio be- comes 2 : 5. Find the initial quantity of water.

milk = 3x and water =4x

35lt milk is taken out,

(3x - 35)/4x = 2/5

(3x-35)*5 = 4x*2

15x -175 = 8x

15x-8x = 175

7x = 175

x = 25

quantity of water (after taken out 16 lt of water) = 4*25 = 100lt

initial quantity of water = 100+16 = 116lt
