In reference to the lesson, CLS 11, indeed there is no difference between mummy thieves and mummy investigators. This can be said because of the fact that in this lesson there is a talk about an archaeologist, someone who can be considered a mummy investigator, was responsible for theft of mummy.
This happened when Howard Carter, a British archaeologist in 1922 came across Tut's tomb. He had been searching for this tomb for years and had finally found it. This tomb was originally buried with gold and other artifacts. Crater knew that if he didn't cut the mummy limb by limb, other thieves would take away all the good. And to get to the stuck gold he would have to cut this mummy, so he did.
