There lived a sage in an ashram. The ashram had a lovely garden with many trees and plants. One day a man went into the garden and began to cut a huge tree. He thought no one would object as the tree belonged to the ashram. The sage saw the man cutting the branch. The sage asked. 'Can't you let the tree sleep in peace?! 'What did the tree do to you? The fact that the tree can't cry, bite or run away doesn't mean you can do anything to it.' The man begged the sage's pardon and fell at his feet.
