Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in collaboration with Mysore Medical College, recently conducted a two-day free medical camp at both Maharaja’s P. V. College and Lakshmi Hayagreeva College.
Medical CampThis was the first time that students and staff at colleges in Mysore were provided with general health check-ups organized by another college.
More than 2000 students and staff of both colleges were treated free of charge. Amrita student and staff volunteers performed a majority of the work, hand-in-hand with the doctors from the medical college.
“It was a great opportunity to serve,” shared an Amrita student volunteer.
Free general health check-ups, blood group testing and RH typing, were among the many tests provided.
Various conditions including malnutrition, jaundice and skin disorders were treated. Students were given referrals to the Amrita Kripa Hospital at Mysore for further treatment, free of charge.
Equally important, Dr. Muddassir Khan of Mysore Medical College provided educational counseling by suggesting simple preventative measures to protect health.
Amrita’s Tele-Medicine unit was also available at this camp.
Earlier O. Shyam Bhatt, an advocate by profession, had welcomed all at the camp inauguration. “Yet another charitable activity from Amrita,” he had stated.

The city is also the originator of the silk sari and home to the popular sweet dish, Mysore Pak.
