He feels that there was a tinge of coldness in his voice because Berriedale had told him regarding the Jago crest and the one he had was not matching his mother.Sletherby had doubts in his mind and he thought that Bertie wasn't Mrs.Saltpen Jago's son as when she wrote a letter to Sletherby,there was another crest (running greyhound)whereas Bertie had the demi-lion crest.
