Answer:

The causes of 1857 revolt were :-

  • The main cause of 1857 revolt was the introduction of Enfield Rifle, in which Indian armies had to tear the shell of the bullet with their teeth which was made of either pig or cow's meat. This disturb both the religious sentiments of Hindu and Muslim as Muslim do not pig and Hindu do not eat cow and pig.
  • The second reason was because of the farmers and weavers. The farmers were forced to grow cotton and indigo which were used in making clothes in England, Indigo is a cash crop which damages the land where it grows. The weavers suffered heavy losses as they do not modern machines to complete their work quickly compared to the British.
  • The British buy Indian Raw materials in low price and sell it to the Indians in very high prices.
  • The Indian Armies where treated unjustly by the British and we're not promoted whereas the British soldiers were treated properly and we're also promoted.

The 1857 revolt first started by Mangal Pandey was a historical war to the British and the Indians, which where caused by the reasons given above. Mangal Pandey was a Indian army who first protested against the British.
