There were some fiction and non fiction books in a second hand bookstore. The number of fiction bookw was 3/5 of non fiction bookw. After an equal number of fiction and non fiction books were sold,the ratio of the number of fiction books to the number of non fiction books left was 5:9. There were 240 books altogether at first. How many books were sold altogether?

Thus according to question we have fiction books as 3x/5 as it's three fifth of number of non fiction books.
As total no of books are 240 at the beginning and owing to the fact they only sell only two of these types.
Hence the equation will be framed
3x/5+x=240
So 8x/5=240
x=150 ( no of non fiction books)
Therefore 90 fiction books.

Let y no of books are sold after.
Hence the equation stands as
As the ratio of fiction and non fiction books were 5:9
(90-y)/(150-y)=5/9
y=15
Hence 15 no of both books were sold
