They started a trek to the peak of the mountain .....supposed to be a very hard journey .......a five ......day long trek ......when they started...complete the story with these clues.

It depends on the writing style of an individual. For me, "they" found a person who was willing to guide them as he knew a shorter route. Due to the lack of research and an experienced trek leader, they followed him/her. As the sky became dark, they set up a place to rest for the night as it was too risky to continue. during this scenario you can insert elements of mystery or perhaps horror to it. For instance: a) they heard a scream; one of the members went missing. b) one of the members saw a shadow of creature (description is based on individual's creativity) and many more. From then, more mysterious incidents start to occur. Try to relate these incidents with the person they met. (Please do not make it too obvious that there is a link between these incidents with that character at the start!) When the story is nearing it's climax, come up with questions like: a) who is he/she? b)what is he/she doing at that place at that time? c) why is he/she helping us? d)what is the ulterior motive? and more questions to make the plot interesting.(this is when the link starts to get much obvious) Based on this, they/one of them starts observing and tries to solve the mystery. The results later on is based on one's creativity as I have mentioned earlier. The "person" could be serial killer on the loose, mentally unstable- dissociative identity disorder, and many more!
