Think about a petal plucked from its flower. Is the petal alive according to the characteristics of life? Why or why not?

as plants do not need any special organ to transfer respiratory gases ....each plant parts take care of it's respiratory needs so it is alive until it's reserved food is not exausted

The petal would still be alive, so long as it still has a source of energy. This is because every part of a plant makes it's own food, so it would survive until it lost one of it's needs.
