They would appoint a spokes-tree who would say “Humanity: Please don’t cut any more of us down, instead, replant us where you have eradicated us. Don’t you know you are destroying your planet’s ability to detoxify the air you breathe where you have clear cut our forest communities? We could have removed millions of tons of formaldehyde, methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia and other toxins from the air if you had left us alone. Please, Please, mankind, establish a plan to recapture the Sahara extension which you created out of once lush tropical forested lands. You removed the shade by cutting down the only protection the land had from the searing sun, so the shaded, humid forest floor once thick with underbrush which provided homes for millions of birds and animals disappeared, replaced with hot dry sand.
All nations should come together and once a year, plant, mulch and water one banyan tree every thousand feet, alternating with one fruit-bearing fig every thousand feet midway between, starting 500 feet in the grasslands beyond the forests, surrounding the entire perimeter of the existing forest. Smaller people groups could plant appropriate useful trees here and there between the banyans and figs. If every year new rings of trees should be planted our forests would be reproduced. Air pollution will be reversed. The carbon dioxide balance will begin to shift, the desert heat will begin to fall and man will be better off. As years pass, the forests would restore themselves where you have given us a boost. All we ask is that you give us a chance. We will do the rest.
