Every individual is free of taking his or her own decisions. But he or she needs to be adult and mature enough to understand his or her own wellbeing.
The time when I was restricted to take my own decision was during my childhood days. Although I used to get mad at my parents back then, but when you grow up you understand that was for your own good.
I personally have not restricted anyone's choices of taking decisions because I don't want them to be unhappy because of my will. But if I see that it is going to harm my closed ones, I am definitely going to talk to them and make them understand.
