Answer:

I think life is a never-ending chain of miracles. But when you’re alone in a foreign land and the only one you constantly talk to is God, they are all the more remembered. Like the time I was on a backpacking trip to Europe. I was asked to go down from the train in Austria because of my Philippine passport. By the time I had gotten back on the next train, I had lost my two girlfriends. As I waited in the Vienna train station for them the next day, I felt so lost and needed to talk to someone who could understand me. I zeroed in on a couple alighting from a train, I was sure they were Filipino. I approached them and asked if they were going to Salzburg, as that was our next stop. They said no, they weren’t, they were going to watch an opera in Vienna. As they were waiting for their room to be available in the hotel, they sat down to chat with me.

After introductions and light chatter, we found out that the lady was my grandfather’s secretary. Although I did not stay long even if they invited me to, the encounter left me with the warmth of home. Meanwhile, I did the tourist route and joined the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. I had a wonderful time. After that I went on and stuck to our plans, watching out for my friends, praying in every church in Austria and Germany till I got on the train to Paris. This time I prayed, “Dear God. Please, I can’t do Paris alone!’ And lo and behold, I saw my two friends coming out of the same train I took. We had a happy reunion and finished the rest of our trip together. What was the best miracle? I was able to take the Sound of Music tour. You see, if I had been with my two friends, it would not have been part of our agenda. The Sound of Music tour was only in English, and my friends do not speak the language because one is Brazilian and the other Bolivian
